As with most industries, staying ahead of the curve is critical. Advances and breakthroughs in homebuilding materials, processes, and practices save homebuyers time and money while increasing overall family comfort and satisfaction.

R.E.A. uses assembled wall panels from a nearby lumber yard factory. The wall panels can be installed the same day they are delivered, thus speeding up the framing stage of the home by as much as 30 percent. The wall panels are a more precise construction method and can greatly minimize lumber waste. Less waste means less cost to the homebuyer because fewer dumpsters are sent to the landfill.

Another innovation recently introduced by CertainTeed are AirRenew® gypsum boards. These are the first drywall boards that actively clean the air using formaldehyde-absorbing technology removing formaldehyde from the air and converting it into a safe, inert compound. AirRenew® drywall starts working immediately to remove air impurities and keeps working for up to 75 years. In fall 2017, R.E.A. Homes will use AirRenew® for the first time in a new home under construction.

Staying Ahead of the Curve

In spring 2017, Jeff Bogard attended a WELL AP Exam Prep course to learn even more about building healthier homes. Developed in partnership with leading physicians, scientists, and industry professionals, the WELL Building Standard® is a performance-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring features of the built environment that impact the health and well-being of the people who live, work, and learn in these buildings. Accreditation as a WELL AP signifies knowledge in human health and wellness in the built environment and specialization in the WELL Building Standard.
